Is voice chat necessary?

Some cool people and myself doing some quests

Alright so many of us have either played online games using voice chat or just use voice chat to talk to people in from time to time! We can all agree it's easier than actually typing out what you want to say and frees up your hands right? It also gives a sense of actual teamwork with people telling on another when to dodge, block, watch out,or get to x location so you can shoot them with healing shots! My friend Addison and myself have been using Skype to talk on hunts and it's helped! I've saved him multiple times as well as explained what to watch out for on monsters I had fought before! It made our monster hunter lives much easier! But is it necessary? Well let's list out the pros and cons!

PROS:

  • Easy communication
  • Better than the keyboard on the 3DS
  • Better teamwork: EX: Someone has fought Seregios before and a hunter hasn't. The seasoned hunter can explain what to watch out for with the Seregios!
  • Greater level of immersion(personal)
  • If poop hits the fan you can just tell everyone to abandon instead of leaving that one dude alone not knowing what just happened!
CONS:

  • Language Barrier(it happens)
  • Rage quitters
  • Hearing awkward stuff
  • That one person that insists on eating while hunting
  • Arguments
  • Name calling
  • Trolls
Those are just some pros and cons but I'd say it's kind of even no? Personally I think it's a great way to play the game but at the same time I only encourage this with people you know or people from a monster hunter group so that if they do something stupid or weird you can just get them kicked and not have to deal with them! More on how to not be rude and get kicked here: Monster Hunter Etiquette! Also if you aren't the shy type then this won't be a problem but for the shy ones out there...yeah this could be a pretty big dilemma! What do you guys think? Is it better to have or not have voice chat? Why or why not? Happy hunting! :)
